1008 Chemical composition and standard of mild steel

1008 low carbon steel

Introduction

1008 is a high quality carbon structural steel, high quality carbon structural steel is carbon steel containing less than 0.8% carbon, this steel contains less sulfur, phosphorus and non-metallic inclusions than carbon structural steel, mechanical properties are better. 1008 carbon steel has good working performance, easy to be hardened and welded, and its strength characteristics can be continuously improved by cold working. Generally used to make fasteners.

The chemical composition standard of 1008

1008 Chemical composition:

Item Element Name and Chemical Composition (%)
Carbon (C) Manganese (Mn) Silicon (Si) Phosphorus (P) Sulfur (S) AL
1008 ≤0.1 0.3~0.5 ≤0.03 ≤0.05
1008 ≤0.1 0.3~0.5 ≤0.04 ≤0.05
1008 ≤0.1 0.3~0.5 ≤0.04 ≤0.05
1008 ≤0.1 ≤0.5 ≤0.03 ≤0.035
WRCH8A ≤0.1 ≤0.6 ≤0.1 ≤0.02 ≤0.02 ≥0.02

医学
(1) carbon steel requirement when the silicon content of Si, usually in the following six selected: Si acuities were 0.10%, 0.10% ~ 0.20%, 0.15% ~ 0.35%, and 0.15% ~ 0.4%, 0.20% ~ 0.40%, and 0.30% ~ 0.60%.

(2) When carbon steel requires Cu content, Cu ≥ 0.2%.

(3) When boron is added to calm steel to improve hardenability, titanium is usually added to protect boron from oxidation. At this time, the boron content is 0.0005~0.003%. If titanium addition is not allowed, the boron content can be up to 0.005% to improve hardenability.

Physical properties of 1008 wire

Tensile strength (MPa) : ≥405

Yield strength (MPa) : ≥275

Cross-sectional shrinkage rate Z/% : ≥50

Elongation after breakage A/% : ≥24

Hardness without heat treatment: ≤197HB

Heat treatment specification: normalizing 910℃

The application field of 1008

1008 is mainly used for cold forming. Used for manufacturing rivets, screws, nuts and other products. Low tensile strength, generally used for 4.8, 4 grade fasteners.

1008 is not easy to cut; Thread cutting and smooth cutting requiring broaching or on lathes should be avoided.

Processing performance of 1008

Mechanical properties
1008 steel has general strength, hardness and wear resistance, and is used in scenarios where mechanical properties are not required.

1008 can be carburized heat treatment to obtain a higher surface hardness (up to HV400 or more), although its core hardness still can not be improved.

Performance of welding
1008 steel has good welding performance and can be welded by various welding methods.

Corrosion resistance performance
1008 steel does not have corrosion resistance. But can be after certain treatment (such as electroplating, coating, oxidation, etc.) to obtain anti-rust performance.
